Until it hits her... that this world's decaying.Who was she? What should she do? What are her powers? And... how did she even get here?

Chapter 1: Emergence Of The End
You slowly open your eyes to a bright light and hear a strange but oddly familiar language. You try to move, but... you can’t. You try to open your eyes more, but the light is too bright to keep your eyes open. Almost like it's piercing through you. You seem to hear multiple voices speaking the same strangely familiar language... you try to hear the voices, but you can’t make out much, but you try your best and all you can make out is:
--- is a--, we --- can’t let h---
--- it... it didn’t --- work ---
Suddenly, as the lights turn off as all is silent as the night. You try to open your eyes and - to your surprise - see that no one is around... not a soul. You try to get up again as this time it works, but as you get up you feel dizzy and look back to where you seemingly were laying at... It seemed to be an aluminium table with chains hanging from the sides. You don't know how long ago you fell asleep but now that you're awake... you feel very, very tired. The room around you is dark and gloomy, but there is a small bed in the corner of the room with a thin mattress on it. You walk over to the bed in the corner and run your hands across it... feels wet, and hard to the touch. You walk over to what seems to be a door with a small window affixed to it. You can't really make out anything beyond it... like it trails on and on.You lightly touch the door, and it surprisingly opens, without a sound. You peek your head through the door and notice to your left and in front that there's nothing but walls... and when you look to your right, you see a long hallway. Not having many options, you decided to start walking.Walking through the hallway, feeling like it never ends, eventually reveals a open door to your right, of which you walk into and find a table with some documents scattered on the table... You attempt to pick up one of them and read its contents.
NB2HI4DTHIXS64DBON2GKYTJNYXGG33NF5TTGNBRNMZGS2I=
You... can't make out anything. You place down the document in confusion and leave the room, but as you do... you notice a figure walking through the hallway. Maybe they know something? You attempt to call them out. as they walk into a door in the darkness....No reply. Only one other option, then...You give chase after the figure’s last known location, turning around the corner only to find... creatures. Creatures around the corner, staring at you in fear. You don't know how many there are.Suddenly. You hear a voice, shouting.“Run ---- now! ---- HER!”You suddenly feel a sharp and stinging pain as you fall to the ground, your head feeling heavy as you start hearing voices in the distance.“FUCK! It didn’t work!” “Look out, she's --- glowing! We need to get out of her-----”You hear nothing but the sound of rubble falling around you as you huddle into a ball, hoping that's enough to escape seemingly untimely death, as you can hear the walls caving in......But.. the sounds start to fade. You uncover your arms... and notice that you've at the outside of a large building... in the middle of a desert. Was this the place you were trapped in? Why are you now suddenly outside of it? And why is the ground below your feet now just sand? None of this is making any sense...“H-How did I... get here?”
“Do not worry of the details.”
“W-wha?”A voice behind you says to not worry as you sharply turn around to see... a figure, wearing all black, like they're cloaked in it. They appear to be human at least, but you can't make out the details under all the sand...“W-Who are you?”
It takes seconds for the figure to reply. The silence is... deafening.
“It does not matter who I am... you'll find that out soon. All I can tell you now is to not trust those people, and do not trust this world. There are many like it, and you need to stop them from doing their... experiments.”You stare at the figure as they nod. What do they mean by not trusting this world...?As you ponder this, they slowly walk away from you and seemingly disappear into the sand, until you can see nothing but thin air moments later. The situation starts to dawn on you as you lie there on the floor, thinking about the past.“I- I don’t even know where I am, or even how I got here… what do I do now...?”You stand back up, dusting your legs off, and start figuring out what to do. Aside from the building you're currently standing at which seems both ruined and abandoned with time, off in the distance, you see a black building. Or at least some sort of black, cylindrical object. Maybe that place will give you answers?“I guess I'll go there and hope I can go back home... no time like the present.”
Chapter 2a: Maybe Someday I'll Know What Happened
“God, walking to this building took forever… My feet are so sore, too... need to find an entrance.”After an eternity of walking through the sand, you finally arrive at the big black building. You walk around it to see if you could get in, but. then you notice something... wrong. There's no entrance, nor any windows. In fact, the shape of it looks more like a giant rectangle that's been placed there by some supernatural force. Was it always like this...?As you continue walking around the building however, you notice something noticeably brown beneath the sand... so you walk over to the shape and pick it up to find out that it's the back cover of a book! Seems to be a very old one as well, judging by the wear and tear and the pages being all yellow...Though, when you try to read the title... you don’t recognize the language. It's clear that these are words, however, so you decide to open up to one of the pages... maybe it's like one of those picture books? You turn to a random page, only to see numerous writings in the same indecipherable language as before and some diagrams you barely understand about a... machine? Well, it looks like some sort of contraption, but something tells you that you shouldn’t be reading the book right now. You're not in the mood to try and learn a new language in the middle of the desert. But, maybe somebody knows how to read this... might as well take it since you have the space. You start walking alongside the building again in the hopes of finding some semblance of an entrance, or at least somebody to talk to.
wooooooooooooosh...
The desert wind suddenly begins to roar, as grains of sand start to fly everywhere. At first you thought it was just the wind picking up again, but...“Wh-what’s happening? “I... I don’t feel so go-"Your vision begins to go dark, as your legs begin to fail you. You look around and can barely see anything. Nothing but a sea of beige, and a whirlwind of black. You drop to the sand with the ever increasing noise of the wind continues, closing your eyes until...“Ngh... w-why is it so… cold...?”You open your eyes, only to notice that the desert you were in is now gone. Instead, you're being surrounded and covered in a white, powdery substance.“I- Is this snow? W-where am I?”You stand up and look around only to see that... the building is gone. The dunes of sand that you saw and the swirling sandstorm have all been replaced with an empty flat land, with nothing but... white. White on the trees, white on the ground, even the sky looks like it's covered in white. It seems like you managed to teleport yourself in a winter wonderland, but how...?Before you can start mulling over that, you begin to start shaking uncontrollably as your skin begins to feel the very sharp drop in temperature, and it doesn't help that you're lightly dressed, at best... you need to find shelter before your fate is sealed in ice.You begin to walk in a random direction in the hopes to find something. With the weather being this unforgiving, running wouldn't be the best idea, but the drawback is that the slow pace you're going at means that making out anything is hard in this icy wonderland. But, to your surprise, you find manage to find a small igloo close by. You don't know if anyone lives inside, but it may still be worth it to hunker down in someone's place uninvited and explain yourself later. You head towards the igloo. At least this time, there's a clear entrance... even a window as well. When you get close to the door to try and apply pressure to it, it doesn't seem to budge... you hope that means that someone lives in there.
knock knock knock
“H-hello?”You were expecting a response, and as expected, you got none.“Please, I, I don’t know w-where I am! Can you help me...? A-Anyone...?”You desperately call out, in the desperate hope that someone answers....It seems like nobody is in there. That means it's most likely empty... at least you think so. Well, that was worth a shot, but it seems like you're going to have to find something else in this white hell, and fast. You turn around and start to head back-“Come in.”You turn around. The door's open! The voice that greets you seems to also be inviting at least, but... when you look at them, all you see is a black figure at the entrance of the igloo... cloaked in black. They oddly look like the one you encountered before.“T-Thank you... I- who are y-“
The figure cuts you off before you can utter the last word.
“That doesn't matter right now, just come in.”The figure starts heading inside, also hinting you to follow. Although you wish they could be less cryptic in their words, it's either the freezing cold outside or a mysterious man's shelter, so your options are rather limited...You follow the figure inside to see a nicely decorated room, with a stove currently running with a fireplace with wood fueling it going that immediately subsides the cold. You feel warm. Much warmer than whatever the wintery hell was outside there. You'd sit, but the cold hard icy floor wouldn't exactly be the nicest padding. But it's still nice...As you start to regain your senses, the black figure hands you a cup. It feels hot to the touch, but with the frigid atmosphere, it feels more warm in your hands. You stare at your cup... it's full of liquid, but you can't tell what it is. It looks very... orange? red? It's some shade in-between at least, but you haven't really seen anything like this...“It’s just tea, drink it.”The figure says in a demanding tone. You would rather not get on their bad side right now, so you follow through and drink it...It's, nice. A little sweet, and has this perfume-y feeling, but it's very soothing to your insides. You feel like your throat has been refreshed ever since the desert sucked you dry of it. And also a little less jumpy.“It tastes good... thank you. But I uh, I wanna a-“
“Don’t question me.”
They cut you off again. The room is now flung into an awkward silence for minutes. It feels more like hours, as the sound of the wind howls through and the fire crackles.Well, you wanted to ask them if they knew anything about the book, let alone who they were, but their insistence on silence seems to have shut down any avenue of conversing... although you notice that they are whispering something to themselves? Maybe they're wary of your presence? The black figure swiftly turns around, as you're caught off-guard by how fast their movement was.“Give me the book.”
“Wh-wha? What book?"
“The book, in your hand. I can see it, its covered in snow."Well, at least you now get an answer to one of your questions! You take it out and hand it over to them, as they start opening the book, fiddling through some pages, stopping and staring at the book... They seem lost in thought. And you can tell they're whispering... something?“So they really... they just had to..."
“H-Hey, what did you sa-“
“Shut it you dolt, I’m reading here."
They cut you off, once again. And they say third time's the charm...You leave the figure to mumble to themselves in silence. As you start thinking about what to do next, mulling over your options and how you're going to ask this person for help, another realization slowly dawns onto you...You have absolutely no clue what to do. At least when you were in the desert, you had a giant black goalpost to look forward to. But this is different: you're stuck in an igloo with someone who seems to only tolerate your existence at best, and exploring outside is essentially a death sentence with what you're currently wearing. Not to mention you're not one step closer to figuring out where you are, or why you're even here, so that begs the question... what happened to you?The figure stops reading the book and looks over to you. Despite the cloak and everything they're doing to hide their appearance, you swear you could catch a pair of black cat ears.
“You look tired... as I'd expected.”
They close the book with one effortless motion, careful to not show themselves for some reason. They then point to a door.
“There's the bedroom. You can use my bed to rest up.”
“Oh- uh- erm... thank you.“You walk over to the door, about to open it, but not before hearing the figure behind you say one last thing:“Sleep well.”That was... awfully nice of them. You open the door. It's... just a bedroom. Nothing seems especially decorated, but there's a table, a candlestick, and a seemingly comfy bed to sleep in. The sheets look fluffy, at least, and at least having a nap would be nice right now.You proceed to hop into bed. It's... warm. The contrast of the sheets and the low temperature makes your lie down feel all the more comfy. And with all the walking you did today... you can already feel your body falling unconscious. The figure said you were going to sleep well, and... they certainly weren't lying. You close your eyes, and head off to sleep.
Chapter 2b: Maybe Someday I'll Know What Happened
“Ack, it's so cold out here... where the fuck did she go this time...?”You're starting to get tired. The snow is starting to pile up more and more, as the world looks white. Although your clothing is currently blocking it all out, that doesn't mean that exhaustion is nonexistent. You don't even know if she's here yet.“Haah, I should head back to base... it's not like I’m gonna find her out here in this weather.”You begin walking back to your small, yet trusty igloo. You've honestly tread this same area for so long that even the thick snow couldn't impede your sense of direction. Guess that's what time does to a person.“There it is... my trusty little igloo.”You walk inside, and close the door. You can finally take your gear off now... was getting a little stuffy anyways. You have to regardless, if you don't want her to know too much, but... brrrr...You immediately feel the cold hit you hard. The temperature variance just went from ice cubes to ice-nine. It really feels like it's getting worse and worse with every day.“Ah, deus... I should start the fire, haah. Now then. where are those logs...”After getting the logs inside of the fireplace, you take out a lighter, and start flicking the wick down. It clicks... and there's fire.Leaving it to the logs for a little while and letting it heat up, the fire beings to roar and the heat warms your surroundings, as well as giving out some nice, warm light. It's soothing. You take a step back and sit down on your chair.“Ahh... that’s better, I guess. She's still not here, it seems, but there's always tomorrow.”Your mind weighs. On top of the fact that finding her is hard enough as is, it's that you only have so much time left until something else could get to her. It takes a lot of energy to even know where she ended up, when she ended up, and the worst of it all, the possibility that she's most likely being...Well, you don't have time to mull over that. It's not like the world has died yet. You really should stop thinking about this.“I need to make some tea. Okay, let's see...”
You open a cabinet. Thank god you kept a healthy supply of tea bags even before it got so bad.
“Oolong, matcha... I am not in the mood for matcha. I guess it's chamomile again, then.”A resounding thud and a walk to the stove later, you grab yourself a mug and place it down on the table, ready to wait until it starts whistling. You were never the best at making these, but you've never been a coffee person, and these are very soothing. It helps pass the time at least.step... step... step...Footsteps. Not of your own.You bolt to the window to confirm your suspicions. After all the time you looked, could it be...?You look out the window in excitement. It's faint, but you can make out her brown cat ears and dingy coat from anywhere. She really never changes her outfit.
knock knock knock
"H-hello...?"
And if that wasn't enough, her voice confirms it. It's Nyala.“Finally! I've found her... a-again. Okay, where is it, where is it...”You scramble to find where you put your cloak and clothing. You cannot let her know you just yet, even for a little bit, and at the same time, you need to compose yourself. She may be your friend, but... this is important. You hear her pleading for help. If you don't answer soon this might get a little rough...!“Alright... breathe. Don't let her know, but don't act too cold. Don't get too angry at her, either, Anima... don't get angry...”You slowly walk over to the door and open it. Just in time, too, she looked like she was about to head off.“Come in.”
She briefly stops to looks at you and you can tell she's a little shocked. Damn it, were you a second too late...?“T-Thank you... I- who...“
"Shit, she's asking questions!"
“That doesn't matter right now, just come in.”
"Okay... crisis averted for now."You turn around and walk back to the stove, At least now you have an excuse to make another cup of tea! Maybe this will soothe her nerves. Although... knowing her, she might spill the cup all over her thighs with how messy she can get.You sigh thinking of the potential mess you'll have to clean up as you turn around and pass her a fresh cup of chamomile tea."She's just... staring at it. W-What's the big deal!?"
“It’s just tea, drink it.”...Okay that might have came out a little more strongly than you intended, but... after she stares at it a little more, she finally drinks the tea.“It tastes good... thank you. But I uh, I wanna a-“
“Don’t question me.” "And stop being so curious, you dolt!"You step back a little bit and turn your head to the side. Seems like she's not paying attention to you, which - thankfully - gives you time to assess her condition even with a peek. iI's absolutely Nyala, no doubt, but it seems like she's been through a bit. The tiny grains of sand on her clothing mixed with snow say so. Although... she has something in her pockets.“She has the book on her...”
You're unsure how she got one, but it's a massive lead. You need to pry that away from her. You turn to face her.
“Give me the book.”
“Wh-wha? What book?"
“The book, in your hand. I can see it, its covered in snow."Thank god she's co-operative for now. She gives you the book and you look at its cover. After one look, you can tell that... yep. It's them. They're in other places too, huh?You open the book. You know exactly what page to turn to. After some fiddling with the pages, you land on it.A diagram about a machine, accompanied with that language that you know all too well... passingly all too well. Your face scrunches.“So they really followed through with it, they just had to do it.”
“H-Hey, what did you sa-“
“Shut it you dolt, I’m reading here."
You really need to stop whispering to yourself when she's here. She's too attentive to this stuff sometimes...You continue to read in blissful silence for several minutes, double-checking pages and just seeing if anything new pops up from this version of the book. You'll have to scan through it more thoroughly later, but for now a simple skim should do the job. Though... when you look at Nyala... something tells you you should be focusing on her more.“You look tired... as I'd expected.”
You close the book, and turn back again, careful to not show yourself. You point to the bedroom door.
“There's the bedroom. You can use my bed to rest up.”
“Oh- uh- erm... thank you.“As she walks over to have a good rest, you can't help but at least say something to her.“Sleep well.”
Yeah... that'll be good. You continue reading the book, silently to yourself as to not disturb her sleeping. The book mentions things about time and space being combined, sort of akin to tying a rope knot, and also mentions things about multiple universes and the Multiverse Theory... although you can't help but roll your eyes after hearing it over and over again, you do admit... they weren't wrong.“So she must’ve found her and that’s why I know her... interesting. Very, very interesting.”
You lay the book down onto the coffee table, looking over to the bedroom door.
“...I should check up on her."You walk over to where she is sleeping and open the door, seeing her completely passed out.
“Already, huh?"
You see her twist and turn a little, making small vocalizations.
"Seems she's dreaming, though... ah, well, she needs time to process what happened all those years ago... good luck.”You close the door and head back to the main room, as you remember to pour yourself the second cup of tea, you drink it. It's soothing... and it's gonna help your head for what's coming down the line.“Well, now that I've found her, all I need to find is the factory... I guess. The one with all the human experimentation...”
Chapter 2.5: The Venture Begins
“Well, now that I've found her, all I need to find is the factory... I guess. The one with all the human experimentation...”As you sip your remaining cup of tea, you start gathering your thoughts. As relaxed as you may be right now, your brain is saying the exact opposite.“Okay, Anima, calm down... she's here now. It's just like the previous times you encountered her, where you just talk, and don't make a fuss over anything. You even got a lead from her this time from that book! Good job, me, now you can finally start untying the knots on everything that damn company did. But okay, before that, you need to just act natural around her... You already introduced yourself, invited them in, and let them stay for the night, so once they've woken up you can start explaining stuff to them and eventually everything will be okay and you don't have to do stupid stuff again and-”"W-wait.""...""I forgot to introduce myself.""fuck fuck fuck fuCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK-"You stand up, put your tea down next to the book on the table, and very calmly head over to ther bedroom where Nyala is in. To not disturb her, you have a peek through the door by keeping it slightly ajar.“Surely she can at least be in bed for more than five minutes aaaaand she’s gone already. Guess she did it... again.”
You invite yourself into the room.
“Didn’t even introduce myself to her properly... ughhhhh, fuck, I even practiced a lot to reach this moment and she just goes and freaking-”
You grip your head in frustration. If anger was heat you'd be making this winter wonderland a nice chilly day.
“Aghhhh... Alea iacta est. Well, guess all I can do now is g- wait. What’s that doing on the floor?”
You walk over to the bed to see the book that you just placed on the table in the main room... on the floor of your bedroom. Did it teleport or something? You grab it.
“I thought I put this on the table, how did it get here?”You open the door back to the main room, and sure enough, the book that "was on the table" is now gone. And the one you're holding seems to be of similar age and wear and tear, so... what's going on? Was it because of her? Or was it...As you ponder over the mystery of the teleporting book, you notice that the page you opened to is... really odd. It's page 7 of the book, and it reads like a string of garbled characters, and it's imprinted all over the page...

"The heck am I looking at... Is this ba- okay no I need to concentrate on the factory, the one with all the experiments and stuff. Keep getting distracted... I'll write this down for later, though.”After wasting about 64 seconds getting a piece of parchment and a writing instrument to scribble on the info, you put the book in one of your drawers, as you head out to grab your jacket, cloak, and various other gear. You sure hope that book can't teleport in confined spaces...“Et velit fortuna!”You say enthusiastically, walking out the front, marking the beginning of your journey. With the new clue you have, surely something can be found out there now!But matter what though, you will find your answer.
Chapter 3: I Know What Had Happened
You hear a voice. It's ringing around your head.It floats in the vast nothingness.“It’s not your fault."It pleads for you.
the constant pleading of a booming voice repeatedly saying “It’s not your fault”, “you need to learn, the truth about the world”
You wake up on the floor, sweating, your mind foggy from a seeming nightmare, but this nightmare was real. You look around after noticing something start to crush you, you are under rubble and the ground is starting to rumble, you desperately try to find your way out of the rubble, but you can’t seem to find a way out.A voice booms inside your head again, “you need to find me, you need to know what has happened countless times,” “it is your fault”. You can’t escape the voice, it is as if it is driving you insane, you are being forced to relive the same nightmare, over and over again for hours on end.“You are close to learning, it is my turn to help”, you begin to feel the rubble loosen and begin to see the sky, but as the rubble clears, you notice the sky is abnormal, it’s not blue, it’s a bright orange all across the sky. The rubble clears, and you finally stand up and look around for your saviour, but you don’t see anyone within sight, “if you are looking for me, I am behind you” a voice strangely familiar says behind you, you turn around and see a dark figure with a mask covering its face, “wait I kno-" “not exactly, I’m not who you have seen before” the black figure but’s in, “I’m sure you have a lot of questions, so come with me,” the black figure grabs your hand and pulls you along with it.Looking around, you see, nothing but destruction and chaos, but somehow still seems very familiar to you.“It looks familiar because you’ve been here before, more specifically been here many times, but that’s beside the point” the figure stops and turns to you and says, “you need to face the truth,” “what do you mean the tr-“ the black figure shushes you and begins to take off its mask revealing a face you have seen before, “but I saw you at the snow-“, “not exactly, let me explain, what you saw was me, but from a different universe and time in this same location, where you are now is in the original world, well, I guess that’s the truth, but it’s also a lie as it is no longer what it used to be” she looks up and stares blankly into your eyes and defeatedly says, “before you destroyed it.”You blankly stare back as the silence slowly lengthens as you begin to slowly process what this strange catgirl has said to you, “you mean, I, did all this?” “Yes, not only did you do all this, but your subconscious is also hiding the truth to what you have done” she stays quiet for a while then walks over to you, “LOOK AT WHAT YOU’VE DONE” she yells at you as she hits you hard on the head with her fist knocking you out. You hear a faint voice echoing in your head, “you need to stop blocking everything out, or it will destroy you too.”As your head rings from pain, you slowly open your eyes as you lay uncomfortably on the harsh surface of all the debris, “get up” you hear as someone forcefully grabs you and pulls you up onto your feet. “Have you not noticed you haven’t seen a single human since leaving the military research lab? Look around you,” in a daze you begin to look around, and see nothing but destruction, and dead bodies, some of them seemingly popping in and out of existence, “you realise this is your doing? Some of these exist, some of them don’t, you control what you want reality to be, in other words, you manipulate reality, however, the deaths you have caused are beyond real, even if you do remove them.”You stare blankly at your surroundings trying to process it all in, except you are unable to. “Nyala calm down, you’re starting to-“ “How do you know my name, I never said it to you” you begin to start panicking and everything around you begins to stop making sense “Nyal- Just trust me, I’m here to help yo-“ you violently push her onto the floor and step back, “n-none of this makes sense, I can’t handle it, I” your surroundings begin to glow with a deep orange as the debris slowly begin to float to the sky defying gravity, “I guess there is no helping it now” she slowly gets up and stares at you, “I need to neutralise this issue before it gets out of hand, it’s for your own good, and the many other worlds” she quickly dashes into you with red eyes knocking you over.“I-“ you slowly begin to get up as rage begins to fill your body and desperation fills the air, “I- I-m, going to kill you!”
